**A contract for financing the project of Tartous port improvement was

signed with the European Investment Bank with an amount of

/Euro50,000,000/.

This contact was ratified under the legislative decree no ./27/ dtd.3/7/2003.

The Syrian Government is sharing with an equal amount so that the value of

the project becomes /Euro 100,000,000 

the project aims at rehabilitation and modernization of the port, supporting

the infrastructure, modernization of the container terminal and general cargo

handling quays with consideration of the difficulties which hinder making the

port competitive with the neighboring ports and so that it becomes a transit

port for commodities and attracting all cargo coming from Europe, the black

sea and the Mediterranean destined to the gulf countries, Iraq and Iran. 

**Anew Traffic For Syrian Ports

Syrian marine ports start adopting a new tariff which will open the scope

for increasing the ratio of the Syrian ports productivity and attracting the

shippers andforwarders The Syrian ports will start applying the new tariff

on 29 / 5 / 2004 .
